Teaching a Toddler Colors

Teaching A Toddler Colors

When I used to ask my son “what color is this” his answer was always “blue” I was stating to worry he was color blind (I’m a little crazy like that) so I started to go through colors with him a lot!  A few things I did was ask him about anything and everything that we would see or touch, like “what color is this banana?”  or “what color are your shoes?” I also did flashcards with him (he wasn’t very interested in those), read a color book (hit and miss), but, I did come across these color eggs that he absolutely loves, he plays with them all the time!  At first I had to help him open the eggs because his little hands weren’t quite strong enough yet, but he quickly caught on.  Each egg has a different color inside, so I would break each one open and say “what color is this?”  and they truly worked because he enjoyed playing with them for a long period of time!  If you are teaching your little one colors, I highly recommend these!

Trader Joe’s Best List

Some more of my Trader Joe's favorites! I include a simple recipe for baked broccoli!

I’m back with another Trader Joe’s Best List!  The three items I am comparing are Broccoli, Olive Oil and Salt.  I am comparing them to my local Walmart.

Broccoli:

Trader Joes: 12 ounces for $1.99

Walmart: 12 ounces for $2.48

Salt Grinder:

Trader Joes: 3.3 ounces for $1.99 (0.60 per ounce)

Walmart: 2.12 ounces for $1.96 (0.92 per ounce)

Olive Oil:

Trader Joes: 33.8 ounces for $6.49 (0.19 per ounce)

Walmart: 17 ounces for $4.48 (0.26 per ounce)

Trader Joe’s for the win!  I grouped these three things together because I make the most delicious baked broccoli! Here’s how to make it:

Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.

Place broccoli in a large bowl, pour olive oil and sprinkle salt, mix it up. (I don’t measure)

Place non-stick foil on a baking sheet and place broccoli evenly on the sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes (I like mine to get dark and crispy)

Enjoy!

Kristin

How To Track Your Workouts

I have to give credit to my brother for this post!  I started working out in his home gym and he asked me how I tracked my workouts and I said “ummmm…I don’t” and he looked at me like I had just committed a crime!  LOL  He basically asked me “How do you know if your improving if you’re not tracking how much you’re lifting and how many reps your doing?”  And my answer was basically that I didn’t know!  When I worked out on my own at the gym, I had a general idea of new how much weight I could lift with a certain exercise and I would do 10-12 reps with that weight.  My brother has taught me that I need to be tracking how much weight and how many reps I do each week and the following week I need to be increasing my weight or increasing my reps.  So, here is the app he showed me and it is really easy to use!  It is called BodySpace, this is what it looks like when you open it up, to track a workout, you click on My Workouts

Then you click on Track A Workout

If you are just starting, click on “Without Using A Template”

From there, you can enter a rest timer if you want, it will then bring you to a screen, where you can start adding your specific exercises, you can search at the top by exercise type, muscle group and/or equipment.  Once you find your workout, click on it, and it will ask you how many sets you want to do, and you click “add 3 sets” for example

It will then, start tracking it for you. And once you complete a set of that exercise, you enter in how many pounds you lifted and how many reps you completed and click “save set”.

Once you’ve completed your sets, you can “Add Exercise” or once your done, you would click “Workout Done”

Start tracking your workouts and improving every week, or my brother will yell at you 😉

7 Hospital Bag Must Haves For Mommy

Hospital Bag Must Haves

Today I will be sharing 7 of the must have items I had in my hospital bag. I tried to keep what I brought to a minimum. I was in labor for two days, so I was exhausted by the time my son arrived and I did not take a shower, so I did not need shower gel, a bath towel, etc.
1. Lipbalm
2. Hair Ties
While in labor, the 2 things I recommend are lipbalm and hair ties. For some reason, your lips get very chapped and no one wants hair in their face while trying to push!
3. Robe and Non Slip Socks
While you are in labor, you are in a hospital gown, but after, you do want to get into something a little more comfortable. I purchased a zip up robe and it was amazing for when I needed to nurse (or try to nurse) my son.  The hospital is a little chilly, so you do want to bring some non slip socks!
4. Face Wash/ Face Moisturizer
5. Toothbrush/ Toothpaste
Because I was in labor for so long, the one thing that made me feel human again was washing my face and brushing my teeth. So I recommend bringing face wash, face moisturizer, a toothbrush and toothpaste.
6. Nursing bra or Nursing tank
I personally wore a nursing tank while in the hospital, they are super comfy!
7. Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses are the perfect “going home” outfit for mommy 🙂

What are some of the must have items you needed in your hospital bag?

Kristin

Anti-Aging Morning Routine

Are you looking for an anti-aging morning skincare routine?  Ever since having my son, I feel as if fine lines are showing up more and more.  I have been using this skin care routine for about 3 months now and I have seen an incredible difference! I am sharing with you my morning routine.  Here is my before and after photo (no filters!)

Skincare routine before and after

Here is the morning step by step routine I have been using:

Anti-aging morning skincare routine

  1.  Wash face with SeneGence 3 in 1 cleanser (I use normal to dry).  Other options include Dry, Normal to Oily and Oily to Acne.  This cleanser does 3 things, cleanses, tones and hydrates while helping to maintain skin’s moisture.
  2. Sene-Serum-C: Works to repair damaged skin while helping to create healthier, firmer and younger-looking skin.  The stabilized Vitamin C increases collagen production!
  3. DayTime Moisturizer (I use normal to dry).  Delivers anti-aging botanicals that work to balance moisture and naturally hydrate the skin.
  4. EyeLuminator: A rich blend of oils and vitamins that work to diminish fine lines around the eyes.  It moisturizes as well as brightens and highlights around the eye.

You can get all of these items in my online store here!

3 Items To Create A Home Gym

Here is what I use in my home gym.

As a mom, it can feel a bit overwhelming with all of the exercise information out there.  I remind myself to keep it simple and stick to cardio and strength training.  I do my cardio outside (walking or sprints) and I like to have a few things at home for strength training.  Here are some items to make your own mini strength gym:

A bench that is adjustable:

A variety of weights, I like the weights that you can adjust, this way, you don’t have to buy a lot and it takes up a lot less room:

And a stability ball:

That is all you need to get strong!  Do you work out at home?  What kind of equipment do you use?

Playroom Organization

Our playroom was getting out of control, so I did a little organization and I wanted to share with you!  Let’s talk clutter….it gives me major anxiety, I’m not sure why, maybe I’m crazy, but I like things organized 🙂  Seriously I do a happy dance when I donate items or take garbage to the dump! Here is what his playroom was looking like: (major anxiety)

Messy Playroom

Messy Playroom

Timmy doesn’t play with a lot of these toys, he basically pulls out a bin and dumps it out like this:

Toys

He then moves on to something else, so I did a toy overhaul. I got rid of SO MANY TOYS! I kept the toys I know he plays with, which isn’t a lot.  And then I re-organized a bit.  In the 6 Cube Shelf I have 4 Grey Bins where I store a few smaller toys. I have a skinny tall dresser where I store coloring crayons, paint, and some art and crafts supplies.  I also have a small bookcase to store some small toys and books of course 🙂  Here are some after photos:

So much better 🙂  How do you organize your kids’ toys?

How to Start A Mom Workout

Are you looking for a mom workout?  Getting pregnant, giving birth, raising kids is so overwhelming that a lot of us moms forget to take care of ourselves, we are usually the last ones we think of because we put everyone before ourselves.  BUT………. we NEED to take care of ourselves!  I believe exercise actually makes mom-ing easier.  When you work out it can:

-improve your mood and decrease feelings of depression, anxiety and stress

-increase your energy levels

-improve brain function and protect memory and thinking skills

-help you relax and sleep better

-increase self-confidence

There are many other benefits, but I think these are key for mommies!  So whether you have never worked out, or haven’t worked out in awhile, start with walking! I wake up at 5am while my husband and son are still sleeping and I work out, come home, shower and get ready.  I am telling you, it is a LIFE CHANGER!  One thing that helps is having a work out partner, that way someone is depending on you to be there.  This makes you hit snooze less often!  Don’t have a work out partner?  Post on a local Facebook Group to see if someone would want to team up 🙂  I’m going to start a new hashtag for all of you ladies that work out early, it is like a secret club, where we know all the secrets to a happy, successful day 🙂  Maybe #morningmomwarriors, let me know what you think and let me know if you want to join the club 😉
